Internship Information

The Roundhouse Aquarium is always accepting interns during the fall, winter, spring, and summer semesters. The internship program at the Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium provides students with a unique opportunity to gain practical work experience in the field of marine biology.  Responsibilities of interns include:

 

Public Education: educate the public about various aquaria/exhibits.

Educational Program Assistance: assist marine educators during class fieldtrips and other educational programs, such as summer camp.

Aquarist Assistance: help with maintenance of the tanks and animals.

Possible Research: interns are encouraged to design and implement a report on a field or laboratory study that has been approved by the Roundhouse staff.

 

Interns gain knowledge about the ocean and its inhabitants; learn the proper maintenance of aquariums and marine animals; acquire a plethora teaching experience and obtain valuable insight and hands-on experience.

 

Requirements for the Roundhouse Internship

1)     Age Requirement:  minimum of 18 years of age

2)     Enrolled in a college or university

3)     Dedicate a minimum of 8-10 hours per week for one semester

4)     Proficient in writing and speaking the English language

5)     SCUBA certification an advantage, but not required

 

Salary

Most internship positions are non-paid, but please ask the staff as we may have some paid positions available.

2)   Attach a resume with at least two references.

3)   Attach a cover letter explaining your interest in the Roundhouse Aquarium Internship Program.

4)   Fax, mail or hand deliver all of the above to the Roundhouse Aquarium.

Roundhouse Summer Science Sea Camp Educational Interns

Educational interns assist marine educators during summer camp sessions.

Program Dates:

Summer Camp runs from June 23rd to August 26th (including two mandatory intern training sessions in early June). Interns are required to work a minimum of 80 hours. This can be in combination with aquarist maintenance.  

 

Intern Schedules: Shifts will be pre-assigned based on your availability and number of interns needed per camp. The choices for summer camp weeks include:

 

Salty Sea Science Camp

Time: 8:30am-12:30pm

June 23rd -27th

August 4th-8th

 

Mini Marine Explorers

Time: 8:30am-11:30am & 12:00pm-3:00pm

June 30th- July 3rd

July 21st-25th

August 11th & 12th

August 25th & 26th

Wilderness Adventure Week

Time: 8:30am-3:30pm

July 7th- 11th

July 28th – August 1st

 

Curious Sea Investigators (CSI)

Time: 8:30am- 2:30pm

July 14th- 18th

 

Science Day Camps

Time: 8:30am- 2:30pm

Roundhouse Aquarium Aquarist Interns

 

Aquarist interns assist the staff with tank maintenance and animal care.

 

These aquarist interns will:
